Summer blockbuster season is officially here as the likes of Mission: Impossible and Oppenheimer promise to blow you away.

1. Elemental (released 7th July)
Disney-Pixar's latest visually arresting adventure takes place in the magical world of Element City. In this bustling metropolis, all of the familiar elements (earth, air, fire, water) are anthropomorphized, leading to plenty of humorous sizzle and interaction. However, when drippy Wade (Mamoudou Athie) meets the fiery Ember (Leah Lewis), sparks really do begin to fly.
2. Insidious: The Red Door (released 7th July)
Long-time Insidious star Patrick Wilson takes the directorial reins in the fifth instalment of the spine-tingling horror franchise. Wilson's character Josh Lambert is still haunted by his demonic past. When his now-grown-up son Dalton (Ty Simpkins), who emerged from a supernatural coma when he was a young boy, heads off to college, it sparks another terrifying venture into that nightmarish realm known as the Further.
3. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (released July 11th)
Tom Cruise is potentially sprinting towards more box office glory in the latest chapter of the gargantuan Mission: Impossible franchise. The stuntwork, global scale and cast list are all taken up several notches as Cruise's Ethan Hunt faces his direst threat to date. Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales and Pom Klementieff are among the new cast additions while the set pieces include a free-falling bike transitioning into a base jump. And that's just one of the action scenes.

4. Barbie (released July 21st)
Margot Robbie is a Barbie girl in a Barbie world – quite literally. In the first-ever live-action Barbie movie, Robbie's title character makes the journey from her world into ours, and luckily, she has Ryan Gosling's air-headed Ken for company. Greta Gerwig directs a teeming, all-star cast of Barbie and Ken iterations including Simu Liu, Emma Mackey and Issa Rae. Can the movie do the Mattel legacy justice?
5. Oppenheimer (released July 21st)
The celebrated Christopher Nolan comes back down to Earth with this fact-based account of an experiment that changed the world forever. Nolan regular Cillian Murphy plays J. Robert Oppenheimer, renowned as the father of the atomic bomb. The movie recounts Oppenheimer's scientific breakthrough and the subsequent political fall-out, splitting the timeline via black and white and colour. The astonishing ensemble cast includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr.
6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (released July 31st)
The heroes in the half shell are treated to another big-screen reboot, and this time they hit the screen in animated form. Perennial teenager Seth Rogen writes and produces this family-friendly origin story in which Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo attempt to adjust to life above ground while battling a dangerous new threat. The voice cast includes Jackie Chan and John Cena.
