Killers of the Flower Moon: watch the new trailer and book your tickets

It's not every year you get a new movie from cinematic legend Martin Scorsese. The octogenarian pioneer behind the likes of Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas now returns with his searing, four-hour-long greed-and-oil epic Killers of the Flower Moon, adapted from David Grann's riveting book.

You can now book your Cineworld tickets for the movie, but first a bit of context before we introduce the new trailer. Grann's story outlined the Osage Nation tragedy that took root in the early 20th century after the tribe found itself unexpectedly deposited on oil-rich land in Oklahoma.

Before long, the Osage were flush with cash and flaunting their new-found wares. However, they then started dying en masse in mysterious circumstances, prompting an intervention from the FBI who sought to get to the bottom of the killings.

Scorsese's movie, co-written by Forrest Gump's Eric Roth, looks to restructure the story somewhat, apparently playing the mystery as secondary to the marital discord between enfeebled Ernest Burkhart (played by Scorsese regular Leonardo DiCaprio) and his Osage Nation wife Mollie (Lily Gladstone who's receiving the lion's share of the critical plaudits).

Ernest is evidently in thrall to his greedy, vulture-like uncle William Hale (Scorsese muse Robert De Niro) who is one of the many venture capitalists circling the vulnerable Osage. Jesse Plemons plays the Texas Ranger turned FBI man brought in to get to the heart of things.

What ensues is a bloody and explosive exposé of the rot that underlines so much of contemporary American society. But enough words for now. Allow Scorsese's quicksilver and electrifying visual language to speak for itself in the latest trailer.

Killers of the Flower Moon has already proved to be a critical hit at the 2023 Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals. The Daily Telegraph's Robbie Collin lauds the film as "a fascinating companion piece to The Irishman: another soaringly ambitious, balefully riveting act of American national-historical vivisection, carried out within the framework of one of the signature American genres."
