What is the story of Kung Fu Panda 4?

Po, who is set to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, searches for his successor as the new Dragon Warrior while fighting a new foe called "The Chameleon", who can absorb other abilities.

That's the set-up for another epic journey of kung fu, dumplings, slapstick comedy and spiritual enlightenment. Who could ask for more?

Are the Furious Five in Kung Fu Panda 4?

Po's stalwart sidekicks encompass Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Viper (Lucy Liu), Crane (David Cross), Monkey (Jackie Chan) and Mantis (Seth Rogen). They've been mainstays in the previous Kung Fu Panda blockbusters, but will they feature in this film?

Director Mike Mitchell has indicated that the Furious Five will make an appearance. In a December 2023 interview with ScreenRant he said: "[The Furious Five] make an appearance, I'll tell you that much. But to be fair, Po is leaving the Valley of Peace and he's going on a huge adventure to this giant city."

Mitchell then added: "By the way, all the old characters are back – Mr Ping, Li, played by Bryan Cranston, Shifu, played by Dustin Hoffman, and then James Hong who plays Ping. Tons of characters. All the characters come back. Every single character that you remember comes back, and a few villains that I don't want to spoil. But really, we wanted to introduce a whole slew of new characters which we did."

Who are the new characters in Kung Fu Panda 4?

New faces in Kung Fu Panda 4 include the Chameleon, voiced by Oscar winner Viola Davis. She can take on the form of Po's old enemies including Tai-Lung (Ian McShane), the snow leopard who terrorised the Valley of Peace in the very first Kung Fu Panda movie in 2008.

Crazy Rich Asians scene-stealer Awkwafina voices Zhen, a corsac fox who is a thief and accompanies Po on his journey. And Everything Everywhere All At Once Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan (he'll always be Short-Round to us) voices Han, a Sunda pangolin who is a leader of a den of thieves.

Is Kung Fu Panda 4 released at Cineworld in time for the Easter holidays?
