Saltburn trailer teases the new movie from Promising Young Woman filmmaker Emerald Fennell

One sultry summer changes a young man's life forever in the arresting first trailer for Saltburn. It's the new movie from Emerald Fennell who scored a critical and Oscar-winning hit with the provocative Promising Young Woman, and there are plenty more reasons to anticipate this handsome-looking drama.

The Banshees of Inisherin's Barry Keoghan ("Well, there goes that dream") plays the isolated Oliver Quick, an undergrad navigating his first year at Oxford University. He soon becomes fixated on his aristocratic peer Felix, played by Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, who invites Oliver back to his country pile Saltburn to meet his eccentric family.

Oliver's obsession then deepens as he's exposed to a world of class privilege, excess and liberation beyond his understanding. With overtones of The Talented Mr Ripley, the trailer then unveils the rest of the excellent cast including Rosamund Pike and Richard E. Grant. (Promising Young Woman star Carey Mulligan is said to have a small but significant role, although she's absent from the trailer.)

The movie is set in 2006 so we're anticipating a soundtrack of indie rock classics to go with the sun-dappled cinematography from Damien Chazelle's regular DP Linus Sandgren. With Oscar nominee Keoghan as its anchor point, an actor who has always excelled at mercurial and complex portrayals, we're expecting big things from this.

Might an Oscar nomination or two is in the offing? Watch the trailer and decide for yourself. Saltburn will open the 2023 BFI London Film Festival before going on theatrical release on 17th November.
