X: everything you need to know about the new Ti West horror movie

Ti West directs the new porno slasher movie horror X

Are you in the mood to have your spine tingled? Then don't miss X, the latest gonzo slice of cult horror from director Ti West. Scroll down to find out more about the movie.

1. What is the story of X?

In this blood-curdling chiller, the crew of an amateur porn film runs into chaos and bloodshed. The film is set in 1979 and focuses on a group of filmmakers who set their sights on a rural Texas location. However, their eccentric, elderly hosts soon get wind of the movie that's being made on-site, leading to many recriminations and ghoulish consequences.

2. Who stars in X?

Pitch Perfect star Brittany Snow leads a hip young cast including Mia Goth (High Life), Kid Cudi (who also executive produces) and Jenna Ortega (Scream).

3. Who is the director of X?

X is directed by Ti West who is something of a cult hero among horror fans. His most acclaimed movie is 2009's House of the Devil, an 80s-aping, slow-burn horror that draws on the 'Satanic Panic' craze that swept America. The film's deliberately grainy stock and slow zooms eventually build an air of escalating dread as a young babysitter discovers something truly terrifying about the house she's in. The movie's final plunge into bloody gore is something of a relief after the relentless build-up. (It also showcases an early appearance from Greta Gerwig as an especially ill-fated character.)

4. What have the critics said about X?

X has received critical acclaim for being an unusually thoughtful horror movie, albeit one that delivers all the slasher movie gore that we expect. It's the latest critical success from indie label A24 who distributed the likes of The Witch (2016).

X has an impressive 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which describes the film as: "A fresh spin on the classic slasher formula, X marks the spot where Ti West gets resoundingly back to his horror roots."
