Gaming giant Nintendo has united with Minions studio Illumination for The Super Mario Bros Movie. Banish the thoughts of the 1993 Bob Hoskins monstrosity from your mind. This is a fully-CGI animation that whisks us into a Mushroom Kingdom replete with bold colours and all manner of familiar faces.
If the voice casting of Chris Pratt as Mario has proven somewhat controversial, there are plenty of other famous names to arrest your attention. Jack Black voices Mario's nemesis Bowser and Anya Taylor-Joy reimagines Princess Peach as a weapon-wielding badass.
Charlie Day voices Luigi, Seth Rogen voices Donkey Kong (seen sparring with Mario at the start of the new trailer) and Keegan-Michael Key voices Toad. That's a sizeable round-up of adept comic names who will hopefully do justice to the frenetic Mario universe.
Check out the latest trailer and try to suppress your nostalgic glee upon the reveal of the infamous Rainbow Road. The Super Mario Bros Movie is released on March 31, 2023.
