Fast & Furious 9: title, poster and trailer tease revealed

Tearing online in a figurative cloud of smoke, the first poster and trailer tease for Fast & Furious 9 have unveiled the film's official title.

The latest in the blockbusting franchise is rather tersely known (in the USA at least) as F9, subtitled on the poster as 'The Fast Saga'. Perhaps this is a sign of the franchise getting down to brass tacks after last year's Hobbs and Shaw spin-off movie? After all, that movie ditched regulars like Vin Diesel in favour of bantering duo Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

Whether the movie retains the same title for its UK release remains to be seen; the Fast & Furious films often possess different names in different territories. Diesel himself is front and centre on the poster (although with his back to us), with a cross hanging rather portentously in the foreground. Has his carjacking character Dominic Toretto found religion at the expense of putting the clutch to the floor?

Silly question – after all, what have we come to expect from a Fast & Furious movie? Although plot details are scarce, we do know this latest movie has filmed extensively in the UK, including London and Edinburgh, and features a new recruit in the form of Bumblebee actor John Cena. He joins familiar faces Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.

There's also a teaser for this Friday's upcoming trailer, in which we see Letty (Rodriguez) hands Dom's cross to his son Brian, warning, "It's for protection... from what's coming." No doubt there's more danger coming courtesy of Theron's nefarious hacker Cipher, who escaped at the end of 2017's Furious 8.

Fast & Furious 9 is released on the 24th of June 2021.
